SafetyStaying safe on anonymous message apps: a practical guideAnonymous apps can be a lot of fun, but they work best when you set some boundaries first. Here's how to protect yourself as a receiver and as a sender.8 Oct 2026 · 6 min read Questions, answered
Can the receiver find out who sent a note?
No. We don't ask senders for a name, email or phone number, and we never store IP addresses. The voice is disguised on the sender's own phone before upload, so we don't even have the original recording to give anyone.
How is the voice disguised?
Your browser shifts the pitch, reshapes the tone with filters, and adds effects like ring modulation, echo or radio static depending on the voice disguise you pick. Each note also gets a small random pitch offset, so two notes from the same person don't sound alike.
Do I need an app?
No. SecretVN runs in any modern browser on Android, iPhone and desktop. Senders don't need an account at all.
What if someone sends something nasty?
Delete it, block that sender (we hide all their past and future notes), or report it to our safety team. You can also pause your inbox at any time.
Can I post a note on my socials?
Yes. Tap “Convert to video” on any note to get a vertical video with the waveform, prompt and your link. Add your own caption, then post it to Status, TikTok, Reels or Snap.
